Obituary

Zenda Louise (Wieser) Klassy, 83, of New Glarus, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully in her home on July 12, 2024. Born on July 5, 1941 in Monroe, Wisconsin, she was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  Zenda began working as a child selling vegetables grown from the garden behind her father's Upright Swiss Embroideries factory in New Glarus, where she also spent many years working and selling fabric and the intricate Swiss embroidery made from the Schiffli embroidery machines.  She graduated from New Glarus High School in 1960.  Zenda married Larry Klassy on July 9, 1966 at Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus, and they just celebrated 58 years of marriage together.  She worked alongside her husband on the family farm, milking cows, raising four children, and finding other ways to help manage the farm.  Zenda expressed her love through her cooking and made what her family believed was the best kalberwurst and braetzelis in all of Green County. She also enjoyed traveling abroad on cruise ships with her husband, playing Euchre and Scrabble, and tinkering on the computer. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, whom she loved very much.  Zenda also bought a lottery ticket once a week and dreamed about one day winning it big. And although she never won the "big one," she did win the final raffle held at Butch's Bologna Bash in 2002. She also won a local raffle this spring and purchased a picnic bench and table for Candy Cane Park with the winnings, reflecting her love for the New Glarus community.

Zenda is survived by her beloved husband, Larry Klassy of New Glarus; her four children, Todd Klassy of Kalispell, Montana, Amy (Bradley) Burdette of Verona, Wisconsin, Jeffrey Klassy of Belleville, Wisconsin, and Garrett (Lindsay) Klassy of Friendswood, Texas; her four grandchildren, Amber Burdette and Matthew Burdette of Verona, Wisconsin, and Brody Klassy and Cade Klassy of Friendswood, Texas. She is also survived by siblings, Arnold (Rosalie) Wieser III, Mary Remsbottom, and Robert Wieser, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Arnold W.  & Frances Wieser II and a sister Elsa Quam.

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Ave., New Glarus, WI with Mary Gafner officiating.  Burial will be in the Swiss Church Cemetery, New Glarus, WI
