Valaria D. Meland age 96 died Tuesday Sept. 19th at Agrace HospiceCare, Inc. in Fitchburg, WI.   She was born May 30th, 1927 to Edwin & Wilma (Steiner) Christen of Belleville.  She attended Ross grade school and graduated from New Glarus High School.  On June 16th, 1946 she married Willard S. Meland.  They farmed in the Belleville area their entire lives.  They have 2 children, David of Sheboygan, WI and Ann (Alton) Davis of Pekin, IL.  They have 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.  Surviving are her siblings: Luane (Herb) Blaser of Belleville, Pauline Niffenegger of Monroe, and Richard (Shirley) Christen of Belleville.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 73 years Willard, and an infant son.  A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm on Sept 28th at the Primrose East Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Primrose Lutheran Church where Valaria was an active member.  The Becker-Beal Funeral Home is assisting the family.
