Sylvia K. Purcell (nee Keppler), age 90, a lifelong resident of New Glarus, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2015. Born on December 11, 1924 to Rueben and Anna (Held) Keppler. Sylvia graduated from New Glarus High School in 1942. She married Thomas Purcell on July 12, 1947. Sylvia is survived by her sons Greg, New Glarus and Randy (Paula), Cedarburg, Wis, grandchildren Melissa, Nichole, Erin, Ryan, Richard, Elizabeth, and Chad, great-grandchildren Mina, Andrew, Adam, Adian, Henry, Violet, Jude and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Rickie; brothers Rolland and Arthur; and sisters Mary Ann Schulz and Evelyn Zurbuchen. Sylvia was a devoted mother and homemaker for her family and others as well. She was an avid gardener and bird lover. Sylvia was a longtime member of New Glarus Bible Church active with Vacation Bible School, AWANA and New Glarus Christian School. She was involved in the New Glarus community volunteering for Meals on Wheels and in her younger years participating in the Wilhelm Tell Festivals. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 25 at the New Glarus Bible Church, 207 Sixth St. Pastor Tom Schubring officiating with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Sylvia's nieces Marilyn Zurbuchen and Margie Boyle, nephew Chris (Eileen) Zurbuchen, and Agrace Hospice.
