Stephen Jerome O'Brien, age 65, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veteran's Hospital in Madison. Steve was born on May 24, 1949 to Paul and Mary Ann (Chlan) O'Brien in the Town of Magnolia, WI. Steve graduated from Evansville High School in 1967 and later the Madison Business College. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. On July 1, 2014 he was united in marriage to Doreen Sies. Steve enjoyed hunting, sports, and spending time with his family. He was deeply loved and will be missed by many. Steve is survived by his wife Doreen of Monticello, WI; sons Ben (Andrea) O'Brien of Belleville, WI and Tim (Danielle Hanson) O'Brien of Chicago, IL; a daughter Megan O'Brien of Evansville, WI; grandsons Chace Bredeson and Alexander O'Brien of Belleville, WI. He is further survived by four brothers Paul, Phil (Merlyn), Greg, and Tom; sisters Ann Hollibush and Mary Claire (Arnie) Hatlen; brother-in-law Richard Rueggsegger; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Lawrence and James, and a sister Jean Rueggsegger. A gathering of relatives and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2014 at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home, 109 Greenway Cross, Belleville, WI with full military honors scheduled for during the gathering at 6:00 p.m.
