Sandra L. (Capehart) Bubenzer, age 86 passed away on Friday, July 10, 2026. She was born April 13, 1940, to Valen and Alatha (Stewart) Capehart on a small farm near Ireland, Indiana. When she was a youngster, her family moved to Plainville, Indiana where she rambled and roamed with her beloved sisters Jane and Deborah. She attended Vincennes and Purdue Universities, and graduated from Purdue with a Bachelor of Arts (English) in 1962. She met future husband Gary Bubenzer at Vincennes U., and they married on a scorching hot June 10, 1962. Over the course of their sixty-four-year journey through life together, they made happy homes in West Lafayette, IN, Urbana, IL, Madison, WI, Moscow, ID, Gainesville, FL, New Glarus, WI and Kyoto, Japan. Sandy taught high school English and history, worked for the Moscow, Idaho School District and the Inland Lake Renewal Division of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. After retirement Sandy and Gary moved to the New Glarus area and enjoyed the flora and fauna of Green County, WI.
Throughout her life, Sandy’s faith and family were at her center. She and Gary have two sons Nathan (Mary) and Brian (Jodi) and five grandsons Samuel (Erica Haugland), Joseph, William (Samantha Winters), Thomas, and Peter.
Sandra was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church for many years and became a member of Grace United Methodist in Belleville, WI after moving to New Glarus. She sang soprano in the church choir, taught bible studies and served on various church committees at both churches. She was also a long-time member of the PEO organization and served as President of her local chapter (WI-BY) and as President of the Wisconsin Chapter.
Sandy loved to read, to travel, especially in the desert south-west, and above all, to spend time doing absolutely whatever with her beloved husband. Over her years she visited all fifty states, Europe and Japan, and for her money, never found anywhere that topped Green County, WI.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2026 at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home, 109 Greenway Cross, Belleville, WI. A visitation will precede the funeral services from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
Interment will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 in the Shiloh family cemetery near Ireland, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be shared with the New Glarus Public Library (PO Box 35, New Glarus WI 53574).
