Rulon Duane Whitehead, age 95, passed away on October 18, 2015, at Willow Point Assisted Living & Memory Care, Verona, Wisconsin of natural causes. He had been under the care of Agrace HospiceCare. He was born on August 26, 1920 in Ammon, Idaho, to Rulon and Ileane Whitehead. He grew up near Idaho Falls, Idaho and graduated from Ammon High School during which time he helped on the family farm and sheep ranch where oftentimes he was the lone sheep-herder roaming the Idaho hills during the summers. He attended Idaho State Technical College until he enlisted in the Navy on December 7, 1942. He served in the Navy in the South Pacific until January 1946 and achieved the rank of Petty Officer, 2nd class. He married Beth Arlene Sams Whitehead of Idaho Falls, Idaho, on October 13, 1945, in Idaho Falls. She passed away on February 19, 2005. They were deeply in love as well as each other's best friend. He is survived by his two sons, Kip (Jane Strickler) of Verona, Wisconsin, and Scott (Carmen) of Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. In addition, he has three grandchildren, Hailey Beth Whitehead Micke of Greenville, South Carolina, Jenna Whitehead Arruda (Mario) of Vancouver, BC, and Jared Whitehead also of Vancouver. Also included are three great children: Brianna Beth Stone Micke, Alexia Micke, and Raymond Micke III. Further, he is survived by his sister, Georgelean Nielsen Olvera (Carlos) of Dana Point, California. He was preceded in death by his brother Jack E. Whitehead and his sister Donna Whitehead Burgie. Rulon was an avid game hunter and fisherman, especially with his two sons. His greatest joy was to be in the forest on a camping trip which would sometimes include 10-15 relatives and friends. He worked for Garrett Freightlines, Pocatello, Idaho, as a diesel mechanic from 1946 until retirement in 1982. He loved his work and many of his co-workers became life-long friends. He was always excellent at solving technical problems and quickly became the "Mr. Fixit" for friends and neighbors. He learned to play the harmonica as a youngster to calm the sheep that he was tending and he continued to play until just recently. He was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Rulon will be cremated under the direction of Zentner-Beal Funeral Home of New Glarus, Wisconsin, and his remains will be transported to Idaho Falls to Fielding Memorial Park to be placed near his wife, Beth.
