Roma Leona Gessler-Baumgartner-Akright, age 88, of Oregon passed away on Monday, January 10, 2011 at the Main Street Quarters Assisted Living in Oregon. She was born on July 1, 1922 in Plymouth, WI to her parents Burtron and Martha (Boye) Gessler. Roma graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School in 1939. She worked as a licensed practical nurse with the Red Cross and at a tannery in Sheboygan, later she retired from the Dane County Home in 1979. Roma first married Adam F. Baumgartner and following his death in 1979 she married Paul Akright in 1982. She was a member of the Belleville American Legion Women's Auxiliary and attended the Brooklyn United Methodist Church. Roma is survived by her son Adam J. (Wendy) Baumgartner of Dixon, IL, three daughters Sharon (Robert) Martinson, of Oregon, WI, Kathie (Martin) Stinger of Louisville, CO, and Lavon Mook of N. Aurora, IL, eight grandchildren Robert, Dean (Mary Jo), Eric (Connie), Shannon (Jon), Kyle (Jennifer), Kari (Chris), Adam, and Erin, eight great-grandchildren, two brothers Donald (Lois) Gessler of Sheboygan, WI and Gerald (Alice) Gessler of Rio Linda, CA, two sisters Alberta Nisporic of Riverside, CA and Beatrice (Bill) Kroeck of Bradenton, FL, a sister-in-law Esther (Ken) Kelsch of Janesville, WI, a brother-in-law John Baumgartner of Oregon, WI, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Adam F. Baumgartner and Paul Akright, brothers Roland Gessler, Orin Gessler, Ralph (Cori) Gessler, Richard Gessler, sisters Virginia Kuntz and Audrey Gessler. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at the Brooklyn Community United Methodist Church, 201 Church St, Brooklyn, WI with Pastor Gail Brown officiating with burial in the Belleville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at the Brooklyn Community United Methodist Church. A memorial fund has been established.
