Richard Charles Mulhern, 70, died of prostate cancer at his home in rural Verona (Town of Montrose) on Sunday, July 27, 2025.  Rick was born in Jackson, Mississippi to Dr. Joseph Mulhern and Mary (Kotowske) Mulhern on August 27, 1954. He married Barbara (Reinherz) Mulhern on Aug. 8, 1982 in Oak Creek, Wisconsin.

Rick and Barb both had journalism degrees and met while working at the former Post Newspapers in Milwaukee.

They enjoyed many trips to the mountains, including to American Indian reservations, and shared a love of Northern Breed dogs (Samoyeds, Huskies, and a Malamute). They spent many hours hiking in the Madison School Forest and walking their dogs in other beautiful rural areas.

Survivors include Rick's wife Barb, their daughter Gisela Small, son-in-law Vincent Small, grandchildren Malia and Laila Small, and beloved Husky Kodiak. Rick is also survived by his brother, Joseph Mulhern, and his nephews Chris, Bryan and Sean Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Anne (Hutchinson) and brother-in-law Welles Hutchinson.

Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Town of Springdale, WI.
