Obituary

Richard James Iverson, age 87, of New Glarus passed away on Friday, May 14, 2010 at his home. He was born on October 19, 1922 in Daleyville, WI to his parents Carl and Anna (Helgeson) Iverson. He attended the Daleyville Grade School and graduated from Mt. Horeb High School. Richard served in the U.S. Army during WWII from December of 1942 to November of 1945 serving in the Aleutian Islands. Following his military service he was united in marriage to Grace Jeglum on January 5, 1946 at the York Church. Richard farmed then worked as an inseminator and later became a steamfitter and owned and operated Iverson Refrigeration until he was disabled as a result of an auto accident. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the American Legion, Steamfitters Local 601, and the Swiss United Church of Christ. Richard is survived by his daughter Deborah (Marv) Schneider of New Glarus, WI three granddaughters Traci Schneider, Kimberly (Rob) Sies, and Karisa (Corey) Hurst all of New Glarus, three great-grandchildren Jackson and Ava Sies and Derek Hurst. A sister, Ann Marie (Larry) Syftestad of Blanchardville and a brother Carroll (Lois) Iverson of Mt. Horeb, WI. He was preceded in death by his wife Grace, son Jeffrey, two brothers Harold and Dean Iverson, and two sisters Avis Iverson and Doris Jelle. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 17, 2010 at the Swiss United Church of Christ, 18 5th Ave., New Glarus, WI the Rev. William Wineke and Pastor Petra Streiff officiating with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of service on Monday, May 17, 2010 at the Swiss United Church of Christ. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the many doctors and nurses at the William S. Middleton VA Hospital and Clinics for their exceptional care over the years. A special thanks to Doctors Bottoms, Walker, Kuczkowski, Crowe, and Maloney for their wonderful care.
