Raymond Joseph Zander, age 91, passed away on Friday, February 4, 2011 at his home in rural Blanchardville. He was born on August 23, 1919 in Wilmette, IL to his parents Joseph and Anna (Metzger) Zander. Ray graduated from a carpentry trade school for carpentry and later served as a Staff Sergeant in a medical unit with the U.S. Army in France during WWII. On February 26, 1949 he was united in marriage to Alice Horitz at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Glenview, IL. Ray worked as a carpenter for many years in and around Glenview. He was the developer of Pleasant Plains in Cook County Illinois. Following his retirement Ray and Alice moved to the Blanchardville/New Glarus area in 1980. Ray is survived by his wife Alice, five children Ann Zander, Marie Larson, Ray Zander, Dody Zander, Tony (Jean) Zander, five grandchildren Eileen Zander, Will Zander, Kevin Zander, Kirstin Larson Moertl, and Kari Larson Dudash, two great-grandchildren Madelyn Moertl and LeeLa Dudash, a brother Richard (Pat) Zander, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Marie Zander. Visitation Wednesday, February 9, 2011, 9:15 am until time of funeral Mass at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 1775 Grove St., Glenview, IL. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines, IL.
