Peter E. Burns, Jr., age 93 passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at Agrace Hospice Care, Inc. in Fitchburg, WI.  He was born on March 16, 1932 on the family farm in the Town of Barneveld to Peter and Regina (Leary) Burns, Sr.  Peter was the last surviving sibling of their eleven children.  Peter graduated from Arena High School and began working at Ray-O-Vac in Madison.  While working at Ray-O-Vac, Peter met his future bride Jean M. Mack.  They were united in marriage on January 15, 1955 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lodi, WI.  Peter would also serve in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957.   He worked at Ray-O-Vac for forty-two years, and also worked for the Town of Montrose mowing the lawns at the Town Hall and the Paoli Park.  Peter and Jean made many fond memories of the twenty-six years they spent at their camper at Indian Trails.  He was a member of St. William Catholic Church in Paoli.

Peter is survived by his children Dan (Michele) Burns, Deb (Mark) Miedaner, Anne (Tom) Haglund, and Terri (Ed) Hagstrom, grandchildren Jason (Denise), Melissa (Peter), Kim (Darin), Luke (Kelsey), Kari (Neal), Leah (Brandon), Sean (Abigail), Michelle (Michael), Charity (Jordan), and Haley, and twenty-four great-grandchildren.  He is further survived by sister-in-law Pat Burns, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Wanda & Rolland DeGroff, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife Jean, son Dave, grandson Stephen Miedaner, brothers Bob, Roy (Carol), Harold, Paul (Eleanor), Dick, and Jim, sisters Alice (Matt) Annen, Mary (Walter) Schmid, Barbara (Donald) Moyer, and Sharon (Dean) McCarthy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at St. William Catholic Church (in Paoli), 1371 County Rd. PB, Belleville, WI with Msgr. James Bartylla officiating.  Military Honors will be accorded.

A visitation will precede the mass from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at St. William Catholic Church in Paoli.

The family would like to give special thanks to the caregivers at Agrace HospiceCare, Inc., Home Instead, and Donna.  The family also graciously appreciates the many visits from Danny, Mary, Carol, Charles, Lisa & Janice, Kristin, Mike & Kay, and Nurse Deb along with the countless others that would drop in to check in and talk with dad.
