Obituary

Natalie Bergman-Heit, age 101, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2011 at the New Glarus Home. She was born on December 22, 1909 in New York City, NY to her parents Harry Bindler and Rachael Parter Bindler. Natalie graduated from the New York City Teacher's College and taught elementary school for many years. She also worked for Paramount Pictures in New York. She devoted her life first and foremost to her loving family. She did volunteer work for Breast Cancer Survivors, and was an advocate, board member, and fund raiser for the Public Library of South Salem, NY. On June 28, 1931 she was united in marriage to Maury Bergman (deceased 1961). She then married Albert Heit in 1964 (deceased 2000). She was a member of the Free Synagogue of Westchester, New York. Natalie was quite the sophisticated lady. She lived most of her life in New York, at her home in South Salem on Lake Waccabuc, and in Manhattan. Natalie is survived by her sons Robert (Nana Schowalter) Bergman of Blanchardville, WI and Lee Bergman of Houston, TX, grandchildren Harley (Bergman) and husband Jud Beck, River Forest, IL, Casey Bergman and wife Douda Bensasson, Manchester, England, Carolyn Bergman and husband Mike Vigorita, Tuckerton, NJ, Stephen and Heather Bergman, Lufkin, TX, and Laurie Bergman, Clear Lake, TX. Great grandchildren, Bill and Natalie Beck, Isaac Bergman, Elisabeth and Joe Vigorita, and Mark Bergman. Nieces Gail Kushner-Kleeberg, Sonoma, CA, Janet (Gerald) Gutterman, Mount Vernon, NY, Joan Chaifetz, Tameka, FL, nephews Herb (Ruth) Jenkin, Wynnwood, PA, Howard Bindler, Aventura, FL, Jay Heit, Hollywood, CA, and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands' Maury Bergman and Albert Heit, brothers Albert (Sadie) Bindler, Sidney (Helen) Bindler, sisters Anna (Murray) Jenkin, Rose (Robert) Landman and niece H.B. Gilmore. Natalie will be lovingly remembered by all who had the pleasure to know her. She lived a generous and loving life, full of joy and happiness. She believed in living in the present, not dwelling on the past, and being open minded to new experiences. Natalie's family would like to express our gratitude to all the wonderful people who helped us care for her during this last decade of her life. There have been so many people who offered their time, friendship, and compassion, enriching her life here in Wisconsin. We thank family, friends, and professionals who helped us care for her in our home. Your efforts made it possible for Natalie to live with us as long as possible. Our thanks to the dedicated staff of the New Glarus Home, who embraced this elegant woman and gave her a comfortable, caring environment this last year. Your commitment to the resident's well being and comfort is a consolation to the many families who depend on you to care for their loved ones. We greatly appreciate all you contribute to so many lives. Services will be held October 9, 2011 at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y.
