Maureen Ellen Grant, age 58, of New Glarus passed away on Wednesday June 22, 2011. Maureen was born on June 10, 1953 in St. Louis, Missouri to James and Anna (Boedeker) Carr. She lived in St. Louis until 1967 when she moved with her family to Kansas City, Missouri, graduating from Southwest High School in 1970. Maureen attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa graduating in 1976 with a degree in Sociology and Psychology. Maureen was a librarian at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for 26 years. She enjoyed living in rural New Glarus and spent many hours working in the yard and playing ball with her dogs. She was passionate about everything she did, especially her most recent hobby, genealogy, tracing the history of the Carr and Grant families. Her family mourns her passing but takes comfort in remembering the things she was, the things she did, and the time we had together. She is survived by her husband Jim, daughter Hillary of Madison, sisters Eileen (Andy) Cebula of Frederick, Maryland, Colleen Carr of Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts, Kathleen Carr of Alexandria, Virginia, seven nieces, eleven nephews, and one very enthusiastic but not terribly bright Labrador Retriever. Maureen will be buried in the Town of Exeter Cemetery in Green County with a private family ceremony. An informal gathering to celebrate her life and to visit with her family will be held at a later date in New Glarus. Donations in memory of Maureen may be made to the Friends of the New Glarus Public Library, P.O. Box 35, New Glarus, WI 53574 or the Green County Humane Society, PO Box 54, Monroe, WI 53566.
