January 16, 1936 – May 17, 2016
Mary K. Stampfli of rural Bancroft, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at home under care of family and Heartland Hospice, following a six year battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home, 109 Greenway Cross, Belleville, WI with Rev. Sara Rabe officiating with burial in the Belleville Cemetery.
Visitation will precede the funeral service from 12:00 noon until the time of services on Sunday at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home in Belleville.
The family requests no flowers, but a memorial in her name will be established at a later date.
Mrs. Stampfli was born on January 16, 1936 to the late Walter and Lena (Elmer) Zweifel. She grew up on the family farm in the Town of Montrose. Her early education was in a one room school, taught by the same teacher for all eight years. Mary graduated from Belleville High School in 1954. Shortly after graduation, she enrolled at the Madison School of Cosmetology, graduating in 1955, as a licensed beautician. Her goal was to own her own salon, some day. After working many years in local salons, Mary opened her Ken-Mar-Lan salon, in New Glarus in the fall of 1967. The salon was sold to one of her employees in 1975, and she retired as a homemaker. Mary became an avid gardener and seamstress, engaged in making craft items and tending her garden. Her love of flowers, and the ability to get her hands dirty, produced an abundance of vegetables and many kinds of perennials, which she sold along with craft items at various farmers' markets.
She was married to Ken Stampfli, August 11, 1956 at the United Church of Christ in Belleville. After only nineteen days of marriage, Ken left for basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. After his basic training, he was assigned duty in Virginia, where Mary joined him. They lived in Newport News, VA for the duration of his tour of duty. They returned to Belleville, where she lived until moving to West Bend, then to Eden Prairie, MN, and finally to Bancroft, due to her husband's work assignments.
Survivors include her husband Ken, their son Lance (Tammy) Stampfli of Stevens Point, WI, two grandsons Brandon Stampfli of Plover, WI and Derek Stampfli of Stevens Point, WI, and a great-granddaughter Karli Lynn. She is further survived by two sisters, Pauline Jaeger of West Bend, WI and Ruth Zweifel of Belleville, WI, three brothers Wilbert C. Zweifel of Evansville, WI, Frederick (Alice) Zweifel of Sun Prairie, WI and Henry Zweifel of Belleville, WI, brother-in-law Werner Kuenzi of Madison, WI, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by a sister Helen Kuenzi, brother Marvin Zweifel, sister-in-law Velma Zweifel, and brother-in-law Burton Jaeger.
