Mary Lou Ryan, age 85, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at the New Glarus Home. She was born on January 24, 1931 at Trego, WI to her parents Dean and Della Smith. Mary Lou attended Spooner Schools until her junior year when she moved to Belleville and graduated with the class of 1948. On April 23, 1949 she was united in marriage to Earl "Poker" Marty. Following Poker's passing she later married Paul Ryan on February 14, 1998. Mary Lou retired from the Dane County Nursing Home after many years as a Physical and Occupational Therapy Aide. She was a confirmed and lifetime member of the First United Church of Christ in Belleville. Mary Lou was very active in her church as a member of the church council, women's guild, bible study, bell choir, and church dinner committee. She loved to travel -- especially camping trips with her grandchildren. Mary Lou also shared her talents through her sewing, quilting, needlework, and gardening. She enjoyed fishing and playing cards. Mary Lou loved her family and cherished spending time with them.
Mary Lou is survived by her children Barbara (Ron) Babler, Linda (Carl) Fisher, Carol (Dale) Storm, and Lori (Randy) Yaun, grandchildren Angela (Jim) Markhardt, Douglas (Kaye) Babler, Paul (fiance' Lauren Croall) Fisher, Sarah (Cory) Hahn, Deyonne (Jason) Ullmer, Denyse (Scott) Beery, and Gretchen Kempfer, and ten great-grandchildren. She is further survived by three step-sons Rhett Ryan, Todd (Ruth) Ryan, and Craig (Sue) Ryan and siblings Ethel (Wilfred) Sandridge, Ray (Gurine) Smith, and Fran (Ken) Zimmerman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, mother-in-law and father-in-law Barbara and Walter Marty, granddaughters Deosa Storm and Adrienne Kempfer, and siblings Albert Smith, Elmer "Bud" Smith, Arthur Smith, and Betty Schmidt.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at the First United Church of Christ, 130 E. Church St., Belleville, WI with the Rev. Heide Walker Hackman officiating with burial in the Belleville Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home, 109 Greenway Cross, Belleville, WI.
A memorial fund has been established.
