Marjorie (Marge) Meland passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 17, 2012. She was born in New Glarus Township on September 25, 1936 to Robert and Katharina (Zentner) Schneider. On December 28, 1954, Marge married Vernon Meland and together they raised three sons. She treasured being a mother and was very active in her children's activities. Marge served as a room mother nine different years, was a Cub Scout leader, never missed an event and enjoyed having her son's friend's visiting her Second Street home. Marge led by example and showed her sons the importance of caring for others in need; as she did with her elderly parents and aunt in addition to her son V. Robert. For many years, she worked in area restaurants and appreciated the many friends she made. Marge took great pride in her grandchildren and enjoyed baking for them and her family. At every family gathering, she was sure to have everyone's favorite desserts in abundance. Her apple and peach pies were like none other! Her hobbies included gardening, cooking, doing crossword puzzles, enjoying coffee klatches with friends, and playing scrabble with any willing participant! She is survived by her son Michael of Mazomanie and her son William and daughter-in-law Doreen of Verona; brother Carey Schneider of New Glarus; sister Doris Voorhees of Oshkosh; her grandchildren Nicholas, Olivia and Will Meland of Verona; niece Jody Morgan of Greendale; nephews Kevin Schneider of Kouts, IN and David Schneider of Terre Haute, IN and many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Gordon, husband Vernon, son V. Robert and son-in-law Ron Boylan. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at the New Glarus Home Chapel, 600 Second Ave., New Glarus, WI with Pastor Carolyn Kennedy officiating with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 19, 2012 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 6th Ave., New Glarus, WI. A memorial fund has been established.
