Marie E. Vetterli passed away on Monday, August 5, 2024.  She was born on January 31, 1928, to Herman and Maria (Strahm) Matzinger in Belleville, WI. She graduated from New Glarus High School in 1946. Marie was married to Paul Vetterli Sr. on Oct. 1, 1950 at the Swiss United Church of Christ. Marie was a clerk in her family bakery in New Glarus for many years.

Marie learned to yodel, a talent of hers that was enjoyed by all of those fortunate enough to hear her sing, by listening to yodeling records while cleaning her family's home on Saturday mornings. She participated in the Heidi Play for 39 years, taking on the roles of Aunt Deta and Peter's blind grandmother. Marie was best known for her famous cheesecake that was a highlight at many family and community gatherings. She cut the recipe from a milk hauler magazine decades ago and the rest is history.

Marie was devoted to her loved ones and her outpouring love was felt every time her family and friends entered through the unlocked front door.

Marie is survived by her sons, Paul Jr. (Heidi) Vetterli and John Vetterli, grandchildren Phillip (Jennie) Vetterli, Casie Vetterli (Tim Stiles), Joanna (Dustin) Stelter, Amy (Codie) Dull, Mike (Kiana) Vetterli, Tom (Sonomi) Vetterli, and Jake Vetterli, and great-grandchildren Kali and Cody Stelter, and Aspen, Maia, Mabel and Braxton Vetterli.

She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, her parents, brothers Curtney and Eugene Matzinger, and daughter-in-law Marian Vetterli.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at the New Glarus Home Multi-Purpose Room (Chapel), 600 Second Ave., New Glarus, WI, enter from the Elm Dr. entrance.

A celebration of Marie's life will follow the memorial service from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at the New Glarus Home Multi-Purpose Room (Chapel) on Saturday, September 7, 2024.

Inurnment will be in the Swiss Church Cemetery, New Glarus, WI.
