Margaret Hofer, age 97 passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison.  She was born on January 25, 1927 in the Town of Primrose a daughter of Swiss immigrants from the Canton of Glarus Ernst and Anna (Hefty) Aebly.  Margaret's father had died while she was an infant; as she grew up her brothers fulfilled the role of her father.  Margaret until recently had lived in the same house in New Glarus since she was a teenager.  She had worked down the street from home at the lace factory, a period at Badger Ordnance, and Fuhrman's drugstore.  On August 4, 1951 she was united in marriage to Ernest Hofer.   Margaret and Ernie raised cattle on the two farms North and West of New Glarus.  She enjoyed tending her flowers, antiquing, and attending auctions looking for pieces of memorabilia to collect or resell.

Margaret is survived by her children Marsha (Ken) Behnke, Cheryl (Fred) Raith, and Diane (Bill) Campbell, grandchildren Jessica (Eric Gurule) Callaway, Jason Campbell, Lauren (Erik) Kroger, Kevin (Brittany) Campbell, and Briana Campbell, great-grandchildren Cora, Margot, Will, Ava, Mason, Emma, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ernest, sisters and brothers-in-law Anna & Christ Tschanz, Marie & Erwin Jacobson, Frieda & John Eide, and brothers and sisters-in-law Henry & Mary Aebly Sr., Fred & Iona Aebly, and John & Mae Aebly.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Ave., New Glarus, WI with Rev. Kelly Volk officiating.  Burial will be in the Swiss Church Cemetery, New Glarus, WI

A visitation will precede the funeral service from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home in New Glarus.
