Mae Phyllis (Heimann) Beckwith, age 86 passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023.
Mae was born on May 19, 1936 in Primrose Township at the Spring Grove Cheese Factory, located on the Hefty farm. Her parents, both immigrants from Switzerland, were John and Johanna (Schneider) Heimann.
Mae spent the first three years of her schooling at Dixon School, a one room country school. Her family then moved to New Glarus. On October 16, 1955 she was married to Robert H. Beckwith and they raised a family of seven children. They were married 60 years when Robert passed away in 2015.
Mae loved walking, reading, sewing, flowers, crossword puzzles and making sure all the birds were well fed.
She was the go-to-grandma when Halloween or other costumes were needed. The long-eared bunnies she made for her grandkids were much loved. She enjoyed attending sports and school programs for her grandkids and great granddaughter.
Mae and Bob also opened their home to two mentally challenged individuals and lovingly cared for them for over fourteen years.
Mae is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Robert (Deana), Bill (Terri Yaun), Bruce (Janet), John (Stephanie); daughters and sons-in law, Ann (Kelvin) Klassy, Brenda (Bernard) Kela, Vicki (Russell) Swiggum; grandchildren, Maria Kapp, Jessica (Kevin) Geib, Kyle Klassy, Jeremy Swiggum and fiance (Gayleen), Brooke Klassy and fiance (Cesar), Ryan (Jamie), Brett, Stephanie, Kelsey, Viktoria, Bruce and Dylan Beckwith and fiance' (Garrett); inherited grandchildren Emily and Jenna Folstad, Matthew Halvorsen, Arsene and Sense Kela; Four very special great grandchildren, Amelia Geib, Emma Hillyer, Jace Streater, Josiah Beckwith. Inherited Great Granddaughter Elizabeth Kela.
Mae was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Albert, and sisters and brothers-in-law Helen (Lloyd) Burkhalter, Frieda (Roy) Burkhalter, sister Susan (stilllborn), daughter-in-law Cathie Beckwith, sister-in-law Alberta Harder.
The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at SSM Hospice Home in Monroe for their loving care. You are a wonderful group of people.
To honor Mae's request there will be no visitation or funeral.
The Zentner-Beal Funeral Home of New Glarus is assisting the family.
