Madeline C. Johnson, age 89, of New Glarus died on Monday, November 14, 2011 at the New Glarus Home. She was born on January 1, 1922 in the Town of Mecan, Marquette County, WI to Henry and Clara (Labrenz) Draeger. Madeline attended St. John's Lutheran School in Montello, and was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church on April 26, 1936, by the Rev. William Hartwig. Madeline graduated from Montello High School in 1940. Following graduation Madeline worked at Oscar Mayer until being united in marriage on February 4, 1945 to Burlie K. Johnson at Montello by the Rev. William Hartwig. The couple then farmed in the Town of Primrose for the next forty seven years. On June 1, 1993 after retiring from farming they moved to Mt. Horeb. Madeline was a member of the Primrose Lutheran Church. Madeline is survived by a son Donald B. (Marlene) Johnson of Belleville, WI, daughters Karon K. (LaVerne) Quam of Madison, WI and Carol A. (Kenneth) Zimmerman of Monticello, WI, three grandchildren David Quam, Matthew (Emily) Zimmerman, and Angie Zimmerman, two great-grandchildren Alexander Zimmerman and Ava Zimmerman, a sister Elva Klassy of North Carolina, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Burlie in 2008, a granddaughter Amy Zimmerman in 1975, a brother Arnold Draeger in 1982, three sisters Florence Bordson in 1989, Ettalyn Swiggum in 1989, and Alice Anderson in 2001. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at the Primrose Lutheran Church, 8770 Ridge Dr., Belleville, WI with the Rev. Nicole Espe officiating with burial in the Old York Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home, 109 Greenway Cross, Belleville, WI. A memorial fund has been established.
