Lyle E. Herfel, age 85, of Belleville passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the Skaalen Home in Stoughton. He was born on June 18, 1924 in Verona the son of Edward and Julia (Mellenberger) Herfel. Lyle was a graduate of Oregon High School in 1941. On June 23, 1945 at the Holy Mother of Consolation Church in Oregon he was united in marriage to Patricia Killerlain. After returning from the U.S. Army Air Corps Lyle and Pat moved to Belleville and have been residents there for over 60 years. Lyle owned and operated Herfel's Mobil Station for many years, and later was a rural letter carrier for Route 2 in Belleville from 1963 until his retirement in 1986. As a young man Lyle enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling. Later he enjoyed gardening, spending time at their Onieda County cabin, and watching sports on TV. He was a member of the St. Mary of Lourde's Catholic Church and later the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Belleville. Lyle was also a member of the church council, the Belleville Village Board, 35 year member of the Belleville Fire Department, and the Belleville Boat Club. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy! Lyle is survived by: his wife Patricia; son Thomas (Kathleen) Herfel of Mondovi, WI; two grandchildren Tamara (Matt) Houser of Stoughton, WI, and David (Katie Watkins) Herfel of St. Anthony, MN; three great-grandchildren Haley and Breckin Houser and Ingrit Herfel; a sister Betty Fahey of Belleville, WI; nieces; nephews; and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 5, 2010 at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 338 Harrison St., at the corner of Frederick and School St., Belleville, WI with the Rev. Kenneth Klink officiating. Relatives and friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of service on Friday, February 5, 2010 at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Belleville.
