Lyle Hobart Freitag, age 77, a former rural Monticello/Mt. Horeb resident passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at the Ingleside Manor in Mt. Horeb. He was born on October 20, 1935 in New Glarus to his parents Hobart and Irene (Werndli) Freitag. Lyle graduated from New Glarus High School in 1953. On July 31, 1953 he was united in marriage to the former Claudette Truttmann at Dubuque, IA. Lyle farmed in the Town of Perry until 1988 and later worked until retiring from Federal Industries in Belleville. He was a member of the Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello and had served as the treasurer for the Town of Perry and the New Glarus Fire District. Lyle liked to play cards, bowl, and traveling on bus trips. He was also a very avid Packer backer. Lyle is survived by his children; Janell (Larry) Friedrich, Renee (Steve) Bigler, Jolene (Blaine) Walsh, and Brian Freitag, grandchildren; Marci (David) Turner, Kyle (Becky) Friedrich, Traci (Beau) Brummund, Cindy (Kirk) Fitpold, John (Anne) Bigler, Paul Bigler, Ryan Walsh, DeAnn Walsh, Jenna (Jeff) Shunk, Krista Freitag, Emily (Bryan Machotka) Freitag, Nick (Ana Werner) Freitag, great-grandchildren; Bradley, Paige, Ethan, Zachary, Taran, Addison, Brynna, Hunter, and a great-grandson and great-granddaughter on the way in July. He is further survived by brothers Harlan (Beverly) Freitag and Duane (Jan) Freitag, sister-in-law Diane (Joe) Buol, and brother-in-law Neil (Judy) Truttmann. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Claudette. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Zwingli United Church of Christ, 416 E. Lake Ave., Monticello, WI with the Rev. Larry Balleine and Rev. Mary Gafner officiating with burial in the Highland Cemetery in Monticello. Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Ave., New Glarus, WI. The family would like to thank the staff of the Ingleside Manor for their compassionate care.
