Lois K. Wainwright, age 90, of New Glarus passed away on Friday, January 25, 2019 at the New Glarus Home. She was born on May 14, 1928 in the Town of Brooklyn, Green County, WI to her parents Raymond and Alma (Disch) Blum. Lois graduated from Monroe High School in 1946 and then continued her education at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. She had worked as a secretary for the Stuart Cheese Company and Pauly Cheese Co. On August 20, 1950 she was united in marriage to Richard Wainwright at St. John's United Church of Christ in Monroe. Lois and Richard first lived in Wonewoc until moving to New Glarus in 1955, where Richard was a teacher. Lois was a mother and homemaker. She served as a part time village clerk from 1969 to 1974. In 1974 she started as a secretary and receptionist at the Bank of New Glarus until retiring. Lois was a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ and had served on the consistory and taught Sunday School, and she was also a charter member of the Edelweiss Country Club. Lois and Dick loved golfing and wintering in Tucson. She enjoyed playing cards, having coffee with friends, and cherished time spent with her family.

Lois is survived by her sons Mark (Susan) Wainwright, Michael (Susan) Wainwright, Matt Wainwright, and Mitch (Ellie) Wainwright, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her brothers Jerome (Barbara) Blum and Stephen (Kathi) Miller, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard, grandson Erik, sister and brother-in-law Lorraine and George Greeder, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Keith and Dorothy Wainwright.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at the Swiss United Church of Christ, 18 Fifth Ave., New Glarus, WI with the Rev. Kim Moeller and Rev. William Wineke officiating.

A gathering will precede the memorial service from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at the church.

The Zentner-Beal Funeral Home of New Glarus is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Swiss United Church of Christ.
