Lloyd Lueschow

Lloyd Lueschow, age 91, peacefully passed away at the SSM Health Monroe Hospice Home on March 28, 2026. In the fall of 2025, Lloyd underwent radiation treatments and recovered well but ultimately passed away of natural causes.

Lloyd was born to William and Alice Lueschow on June 2, 1934, in the Town of Wien, Marathon County, Wisconsin. He moved with his family to Benton, Wisconsin, when he was in the sixth grade and graduated from Benton High School in 1952. He then attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison, graduating in 1956 with a degree in Biology. Lloyd continued his education at the University of Wisconsin Madison to achieve a Master of Science Degree in Entomology.

Before attending graduate school, Lloyd served in the United States Air Force as a pilot stationed in the Philippines. He spent his entire professional career working for the State of Wisconsin, beginning at the State Laboratory of gene as a biological scientist and eventually serving as a Bureau Director for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. During his career, he also completed short-term work with the World Health Organization in Brazil to improve water quality in Rio de Janeiro and Bella Horizonte. Lloyd made many wonderful and lifelong friends during his years of employment with the State. After retiring from the Wisconsin DNR, he operated a lawn service business for nearly twenty years.

Lloyd married Shirley Rhiner at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on June 1, 2026. Lloyd and Shirley enjoyed many vacations that took them around the world golfing, sightseeing, and enjoying warm weather. Lloyd also took trips with each of his children, including Green Bay Packer games, golfing, fishing, rafting, biking, and other adventures.

Lloyd’s favorite pastime was riding his bike through the rolling hills of Greene and Dane counties. Over the past three and a half years, he logged more than 13,000 miles. It was not uncommon for him to complete a sixty-mile loop in 90-degree heat.

Lloyd cherished spending time at the Chalet Landhaus with his coffee club as well as a monthly breakfast with his Department of Natural Resources colleagues and friends. Lloyd and Shirley played in a bridge club for over sixty-two years while Lloyd also enjoyed playing in a sheepshead club for over forty-five years.

Lloyd served on the New Glarus Village Board as well as the Green County Board of Supervisors multiple terms.

Lloyd was most proud of his children’s and grandchildren’s educational achievements and entrepreneurial accomplishments.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Shirley Lueschow; and his three children, Kevin (Sarah) Lueschow, Karen Lueschow, and Karl (Kristin) Lueschow. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Shiloh (Fabian) Lueschow - Guijosa, Jesse Lueschow, Andrew (Amanda) Lueschow, Tyler Lueschow (Kennedy Dreger), and Brock Lueschow. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, William and Alice Lueschow, and his sister, Sandra Oliver and brother-in-law, Karl Oliver. He was also preceded in death by his in-laws, Otto and Elda Rhiner.

A private funeral service will be held on April 3, 2026 with burial in the Verona Cemetery. All will be welcome to a celebration of Lloyd’s life that will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday April 19, 2026 at Edelweiss Chalet Country Club, W4764 Edelweiss Rd., New Glarus, WI.
