LeRoy Freitag, age 91 of Belleville, WI passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at Cedarhurst in Verona.  He was born on November 20, 1932 in Elkhorn, WI the son of Paul and Martha (Evenson) Freitag.  LeRoy graduated from Elkhorn High School in 1951.  He then served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 including service in Korea.  Following his discharge LeRoy attended and graduated from Milton College in 1958 with a degree in Education.  On June 29, 1957 he was united in marriage to JoAnn Desing at the Bethel United Methodist Church in Elkhorn, WI.  LeRoy began his teaching career in Black Earth and Brooklyn High Schools.  In 1962 he started as a Social Studies and History teacher in Belleville, he would retire in 1994.  LeRoy also served as a baseball coach for 25 years as well as coaching basketball, football, and wrestling.  He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Belleville, NEA, WEA, New Glarus Masonic Lodge #310, and Belleville Community Club.  LeRoy served on the Belleville Fire Department for 20 years, was a member of the Duppler-Smith American Legion Post #460, and served as the Village of Belleville Assessor.  He was also a dedicated Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan.

LeRoy is survived by his children Ladd and Lisa (Mark) Ingles, grandchildren Chris Ingles, Sarah (Thomas Westbrook) Ingles, Amy Freitag, Karen Freitag, and Elle Freitag, and great-grandson Isaac Westbrook.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife JoAnn, brother Clarence and Edward, and sister Helen Behrens.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Grace United Methodist Church, 246 W. Pearl St. Belleville, WI with Pastor Yaba Lucie Anongba officiating.  Inurnment with military honors will follow in the Belleville Cemetery.

A gathering of relatives and friends will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2023 at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home, 109 Greenway Cross, Belleville, WI.

Memorials are suggested to the Grace United Methodist Church, Cedarhurst of Verona, SSM Health at Home Hospice, or the Edelweiss Chalet Country Club.
