He had one brother Alvin Louis Piller, who died in 1987 in Atlantic, IA. His wife of many years, Evelyn Butts Piller currently resides in Four Winds Manor, Verona, WI. For many years, Leo worked the family farm near Basco with his Mother who died in 1963. Leo also worked for the township and was a member of the school board. He later retired from the State of Wisconsin Department of Transportation, traffic survey crew. Leo was also an accomplished musician playing many instruments (especially the banjo) and performing with many groups including his own band Leo Piller and his Orchestra, the Sammy Eggiman Band, Freddy Schultz and his Dutchmasters, and Paul Elmer and his Orchestra. In November of 1963 Leo married Evelyn Butts, a longtime school teacher and the couple took up residence in Belleville, where they have lived until just recently. They were always very active in the community and their church, busying themselves with growing and preparing food for annual picnics, and working the numerous raffles. Turnip kraut and Community Picnic Potatoes were their specialty. Leo and Evelyn regularly helped with the Apostolate to the Handicapped in Monroe. In 1988 the couple made their first trip to St. Germaine, France to visit their ancestral birthplaces. Leo was able to speak to the villagers in their own French Patois language, and thus they received a special welcome. The two trips they made to France were high-lights of their lives. Survivors include many nieces and nephews and nephews in the Belleville area, Paul (Patti) Piller of Tallahassee, FL; Janice (William) Dostal of Iowa City, IA, Constance (Lynn) Johnson of Elkhorn, IA; and their children and grandchildren.
