Obituary

Joanne Helen Altmann Rauch passed away peacefully the morning of August 2, 2024, at the age of 82.

Joanne was born July 21st, 1942, in Monroe, Wisconsin to Roy and Helen Altmann. She was raised, the oldest of five siblings, in New Glarus, Wisconsin. She often spoke about how she loved growing up in New Glarus. In high school she became an accomplished flutist and majorette in the marching band, graduating in 1960. She was always proud of her Swiss heritage and a proud New Glarus girl.

On May 23rd, 1964, she married Clifford Rauch in Belleville, Wisconsin. Two years later living in Madison, she gave birth to their first child, a son. Soon followed three more boys and last, but not least, a baby girl. Being a mother, and later a grandmother, was what Joanne loved most in life. She was a selfless, kind, and caring mother, always putting the needs of her children first. As her kids became older, Joanne went back to work part-time. She enjoyed the people she met and the friendships she made along the way. In 1999, she retired and moved from Madison back to Green County to be closer to her roots. Joanne and Clifford celebrated 50 years of marriage, five children and seven grandchildren until Clifford's passing in 2015.

Joanne loved Elvis, hot summer days, carnations, bluebirds, and anything sweet; however, no passion was greater than the unconditional love she had for her children and grandchildren. Most recently, she loved outings to watch Brady and Norah's school and sporting events.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Helen, husband Clifford, sister Jeanne and brother Scott. She is survived by her five children, Matthew (Chris) Rauch, Michael Rauch, Joseph (Alecia) Rauch, Jeffrey Rauch, Elizabeth (Robert) Cichy, and grandchildren, Sam, James, John, Caitlyn, Brooke, Brady, and Norah.

The family would like to thank all the medical professionals that helped in our journey. You do important work, and we are all appreciative of your kindness, compassion, and support.

Mom was our tree to lean on and the sunlight in our days. She taught us how to dream and cheered our achievements. All our stories started with hers. Although our hearts are heavy, we are forever grateful she was our mom and we will carry her with us always. We love you, Mom.

The Becker-Beal Funeral Home of Belleville is assisting the family.
