JoAnn Freitag, age 85 passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at the St. Clare Hospice Home in Baraboo. She was born on September 24, 1935 in Elkhorn, WI the daughter of Walter and Ruth (Schultz) Desing. Jo graduated from Elkhorn High School in 1953 and then continued her education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee graduating in 1957. She completed numerous post-graduate courses at Edgewood College, UW-Platteville, and UW-Madison. On June 29, 1957 she was united in marriage to LeRoy Freitag at the Bethel Methodist Church in Elkhorn. Jo first taught kindergarten in Janesville and Black Earth and then went on to teach kindergarten and second grade in Belleville from 1968 to 1994. She was also an accomplished pianist; Jo began playing the organ at church when she was 12 years old. She played for church services for over 60 years at each church she attended including the Grace United Methodist Church in Belleville where she was a current member. Jo was a member and served on the board of the Edelweiss Chalet Country Club, taught piano lessons, and was a member of the Red Hatters. Jo was a kind and generous woman, who was loved dearly by family and friends.

Jo is survived by her husband LeRoy, son Ladd (Paula) Freitag, daughter Lisa (Mark) Ingles, grandchildren Christopher Ingles, Sarah Ingles, Amy Freitag, Karen Freitag, and Lance Freitag.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother David Desing.

A private family memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home, 109 Greenway Cross, Belleville, WI.

A public celebration of Jo's life will be held at a later date.

A memorial fund has been established.
