Jo Ann W. Therkelsen, age 78 of Belleville passed away on Friday, June 6, 2014 at Agrace HospiceCare, Inc. in Fitchburg. She was born the daughter of Raymond and Mildred (Streiff) Warner on June 24, 1935. Jo Ann graduated from Belleville High School in 1953. On May 14, 1958 she was united in marriage to William Therkelsen. She worked for the WI Optometric Association for 43 years, retiring in 1997. Jo Ann then worked for Federal Industries in Belleville for seven years and then Duluth Trading Company. She was a lifelong member of the First United Church of Christ in Belleville, an honorary and life member of the WI Optometric Association. Jo Ann served her church as Sunday school superintendent, sang in the Junior and Senior choir, and was a founding member of the Bells. She was also an honorary member of the WI Paraoptometric Association and served on the Dane County Commission on Aging. Jo Ann was proud to have been the first female President of the Village of Belleville, and during her tenure of 12 years she was instrumental in the development of the Industrial Park and the lighting of the Community Park. Jo Ann is survived by her daughter Kristi (John LaFay) and son Kevin "Turk" both of Belleville, two grandchildren Karla Hendrickson and Thomas Hendrickson, and a great-grandchild Hayden Ann Hendrickson. She was preceded in death by her husband William in 1991, father in 1990, mother in 1991, and a brother Kenneth in 1972. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the First United Church of Christ, 130 E. Church St., Belleville, WI with burial in the Belleville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 9, 2014 at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home, 109 Greenway Cross, Belleville, WI. A memorial fund has been established.
