Obituary

Jay Alan Blewett, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at UW Hospital in Madison.  He was born on May 6, 1947 in Emmett Idaho the son of Col. Rex & Jean (Mann) Blewett.  Jay graduated from Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, VA while his father was stationed at the Pentagon.  He would continue his education at Purdue University earning his bachelor's degree in engineering and as part of the Naval ROTC program.  As a student at Purdue, Jay met and later married Catherine "Cathy" Gheen on September 13, 1969.  Jay began his active-duty service in the Navy first at the Naval Nuclear School and then aboard the submarine, USS James K. Polk SSBN-645.  Following his discharge from the Navy in 1974, Jay completed his M.S. degree in Nuclear & Chemical Engineering from IUPUI.  After being honorably discharged from the Navy as a First Lieutenant in 1974, Jay and Cathy moved to Indianapolis, initially, to raise their three children Jennifer, Karen, and Daniel.  Ultimately, Jay and his family moved around the country throughout his career, settling in Alexandria, VA where he worked as a consulting engineer for many years.  Jay and Cathy retired to Mesa, AZ in 2014.  They enjoyed their retirement in their chosen community of Sunland Village in Mesa, especially singing in the Songsters and participating in the Arts and Crafts Guild.  Following the passing of Cathy, in 2020, Jay moved to New Glarus to be closer to his grandchildren in 2023.

Jay is survived by his daughters Jennifer Casey and Karen (Joe) Sommer-DiPietro, son Daniel (Heather) Blewett, grandchildren Ryan, Morgan, & Sean Casey (and their father, Brendan Casey) and Anna & Aaron Blewett.  He is further survived by a brother Richard (Dyan) Blewett and his well-loved cat, Delta Quinn "DQ".

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Cathy.

Inurnment with military honors will be in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, Phoenix, AZ at a later date.

The Zentner-Beal Funeral Home of New Glarus is assisting the family.
