Iona Doris Aebly, age 95, of New Glarus passed away on Monday, June 20, 2016 at the Glarner Lodge in New Glarus. She was born on August 28, 1920 near Blanchardville to her parents Thomas and Marella (Severson) Helmeid. On April 2, 1942 she was united in marriage to Fred Aebly in Argyle. Iona and Fred farmed in the Blanchardville/New Glarus area until moving to New Glarus in 1964. She was a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus. Iona enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, quilting, cooking, and going for walks. Iona was a dedicated volunteer at the New Glarus Home. She was also an avid Brewers fan.

Iona is survived by her children Ron (Lori) Aebly of Verona, WI, Gary (JoAnn) Aebly, Verona, WI, and Deb Murkve, Oregon, WI, ten grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Fred, brother Myron Helmeid, sisters Alice Jeremiason, Mavis Thompson, and Marian Flannery, and a son-in-law Don Murkve.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the New Glarus Home Chapel, 600 Second Ave., New Glarus, WI (access via the Elm Dr. entrance) with the Rev. William Wineke officiating with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of services on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the New Glarus Home Chapel.

The Zentner-Beal Funeral Home of New Glarus is assisting the family.
