Obituary

Surrounded by his loving family, Ian Campbell passed away at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg on April 17, 2024 after a courageous 14-month long battle with brain cancer.  Ian was born on June 4, 1945 in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England to Charles and Isabel (Peg) Campbell.  He grew up in the Belleville area. He attended Belleville area schools and graduated from Belleville High School in 1964. He married his high school sweetheart, Jane McDermott, on July 23, 1966.  He spent the beginning years of their marriage serving in the Air Force and was deployed to Vietnam. Over the years, he worked as a supervisor at Deltown, a general manager of the Super Bowl, maintenance at Cuna, and finally driving for the Belleville School District taking Marin to Janesville each day. Once he retired, you could find him working in his garden or playing euchre and having coffee at J&Ms.  If he was not at home, he was most likely fishing with Glen, his sons, his grandsons, or his friends. He fished locally or up north in Crivitz, his home away from home at Petey's place, or in the Minong area staying with the Bigler clan. Ian was involved with Fishing Without Boundaries; he served as a guide for anglers with disabilities and took them out on the lake fishing giving them an experience, they may not normally have had an opportunity to do.  Ian was also involved with the men's softball league in Belleville for 50 years.  He played in and ran the league for almost 30 years and then umpired for over another 20 years.  If it was Wednesday night in the summer, you could find him at Community Park.

Ian is survived by his three children, Brian (Stacey) Campbell, Michelle Campbell, and Craig (Emily) Campbell. He is also survived by his grandchildren Colten (Fredabelle) and Finn (Rowan) Campbell-Pritzl, Megan (Zach Meyer), Sean, and Aiden Campbell, and Ella Campbell.  He also has a great-grandson Sylvain who he absolutely adored. He is survived by his brothers, Clive (Joyce Hysel) and Charles Campbell, and sister, Stella Bollerud. He is also survived by his in-laws, Robert Ihm, Joanne Hollis, Janice Schulz, Judy Baker, June Frick, Robert (Kathy) McDermott, and Ron (Diane) McDermott.

Ian was preceded in death by his wife Jane, his parents, infant brother Edward, his father and mother-in-law Charles and Delaphine McDermott, his grandson Caleb Campbell, great-grandson Cyrus Campbell-Pritzl, brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard Bollerud, Alice Campbell, Roger McDermott, Joyce and Tom McIntyre, Jenette and Bob McCullick, Jeraldine Ihm, David Hollis, Gerald Schultz, Fred Baker, Juanita and Walter Anderson, and John Frick.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home, 109 Greenway Cross, Belleville, WI.  A time of remembrance will follow the visitation at 1:30 p.m.  Burial with military honors will be in the St. James Cemetery, Belleville, WI.
