Herbert D. Klassy, age 89, passed away on March 20, 2015 at the New Glarus Home. He was born on June 18, 1925 in the Town of Exeter to his parents Fred H. and Emma M. (Hammerly) Klassy. On November 22, 1944 he was united in marriage to Audrae Hope Swiggum at the Old York Lutheran Church. Herb farmed in the Town of York for many years until retiring in 1986 and moving to New Glarus. He was a member of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church and previously the Old York Lutheran Church where he had served on the church council and the York Memorial Lutheran Church. Herb had also served on the Town of York Board and ASCS Board. Herb is survived by his wife Hope Klassy of New Glarus, WI, children Carol (Art) Thompson of New Glarus, WI, Ralph (Vicki) Klassy of Phillips, WI, Dale (Lynn) Klassy of Palatine, IL, Neal (Linda) Klassy of Blanchardville, WI, Rodney (Carolyn) Klassy of Austin, TX, Fern (Gary) Langfoss of Hollandale, WI, Jim (Chris) Klassy of Monticello, WI, and Kelvin (Ann) Klassy of New Glarus, WI, twenty three grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his sisters Frieda Rotar and Bernice Hamilton both of Verona, WI, brother-in-law Erling (Evelyn) Swiggum of Dodgeville, WI and sister-in-law Gwen (Lowell) Smythe of Charleston, SC. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Fred Jr. and Raymond. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 506 Twelfth Ave., New Glarus with the Rev. Gene Talley officiating with burial in the Old York Cemetery rural Blanchardville. Relatives and friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Ave., New Glarus, WI. A memorial fund has been established.
