George L. River, MD, age 88 passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 26, 2021. He was born on June 5, 1932 in Oak Park, IL the son of Louis River II, MD and Elizabeth (Lambert) River. George graduated from the University of Chicago and Loyola Medical School. He had also served as a Captain in the United States Air Force. Dr. River worked primarily in Internal Medicine and Hematology at St. Joseph's Hospital and Marshfield Clinic in Marshfield, WI for many years. He also practiced Oncology in Youngstown, OH; Davenport, IA; Joplin, MO; and his last eight years at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa, OK from where he retired at age 84. He was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Belleville, WI.

George is survived by his sister, Amy (River) Valenzuela; children Gregory River, Geoffrey River, Catherine River, Heidi Linda River and David River. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert River, his wife Judy; as well as his wife from a prior marriage, Renee (Kaplan) River.

Per Dr. River's request no services will be held.
