George Lester “Skip” Mecklenburg, age 88 of New Glarus, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at his home. He was born on August 17, 1938, in Genoa City, WI the son of Earl Charles and Vanetta Helen (Shaw) Mecklenburg. George grew up along the Wisconsin/Illinois border and graduated from Richmond Burton High School in 1956. On February 22, 1958, he was united in marriage to Lynne Bjerning in Genoa City, WI. George was a farmer at heart and he loved his time spent on the farm. He would work in purchasing for SG Supply for many years until retiring in 2004. George would move to the New Glarus area in 2015 to be nearer his family, and he was able to reconnect with his agricultural roots.
George is survived by his three daughters; Connie (Randy) Gehin, Leslie (Lary Slotten) Mecklenburg, and Christine (Paul) Schlueter, six grandchildren; Tim (Elizabeth), Tom (Chandal), Samantha (Mark), Lynnette (Joe), Alexander, and Domenico, five great-grandchildren; Ethan, Elsie, Kaiya, Luna, and Max, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lynne, daughter Mary Lynne, and brothers Earl “Pep” and Van “Topper” Mecklenburg.
A celebration of George’s life will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 819 Third Ave., New Glarus, WI.
Inurnment will be at a later date alongside his wife and daughter in the Mound Prairie Cemetery, Twin Lakes, WI.
The Zentner-Beal Funeral Home of New Glarus is assisting the family.
Memorials are suggested to SSM Health at Home Hospice-Monroe.
