George Eichelkraut, age 79 of New Glarus, died on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at UW Hospital in Madison.  He was born on August 24, 1943 to Paul and Eldera (Itten) Eichelkraut.  He grew up in New Glarus and graduated from New Glarus High School in 1961.  He began farming at a young age and farmed his entire life.  He also worked at Francois Ford, Accurate Auto, and was a bartender at Flannery's Supper Club.  Over the last 20 years, he worked at Kelsch Machine in Paoli.  He was also a member of the Town of New Glarus Board and served as president for many years.  In addition, he was part of the Green County ASCS Board for many years.  He also enjoyed playing softball and playing cards and was a member of the Sugar River Euchre League for many years.

On April 16 ^th , 1966, he married Lois Paulson and the couple was happily married for 53 years.  George has two sons:  Brett (Renee) Eichelkraut and Jeff (Jackie) Eichelkraut.  George has five grandchildren that he enjoyed so much:  Kendra Mussehl, Bailey Eichelkraut, Bo Eichelkraut, Ellie Eichelkraut, and Reese Eichelkraut.

He is survived by his two sons and three siblings:  Barbara Eichelkraut, Rachel (Denny) Baker, and Josh (Katie) Eichelkraut, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Lois; brothers Jerome and Byron; and sister Aleta.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at the Swiss United Church of Christ, 18 Fifth Ave., New Glarus, WI with Rev. Pat Pluss officiating.

A gathering of relatives and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 16, 2022 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Ave., New Glarus, WI.
