Florence Ada Beutler

Florence Ada Beutler (Kollath), 89, passed away on May 25, 2026. She was born on March 25, 1937, to Rodney & Helen (Dettwiler) Kollath and grew up in Mount Vernon, Wisconsin. Florence graduated from Mount Horeb High School in 1955.

On February 1, 1958, Florence married Johnny Beutler. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, and community until Johnny’s passing in 1996.

Florence worked for the Board of Regents of State Colleges and later served for many years as receptionist for Dr. James Lampman, DDS. She was also known to many local families through the years as she opened her home for babysitting.

A lifelong member of Zwingli United Church of Christ in Mount Vernon, Florence faithfully served as church treasurer for more than 40 years as well as many years on the church council. Her commitment to service extended beyond her church through volunteer work at the New Glarus Home, where she was also a member of the auxiliary.

Family was at the center of Florence’s life. She especially enjoyed backyard picnics with family, summers at the lake, motorcycle trips with Johnny, and traveling with friends and family. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at sporting events and other activities. One especially memorable trip was traveling to Switzerland in 2013 with all four of her children, a time together that remains meaningful to the family. She also made several trips to Africa. She was known for bringing people together and making everyone feel welcome.

Among family and friends Florence was known for her homemade chocolate chip cookies and hot chocolate sauce, along with her early morning Labor Day breakfasts, where anyone who stopped by was welcome. These traditions became lasting memories for many.

Florence is survived by her children: Debbie (Mike) Hanna, Mike (Beth Beutler, Gary (Angie) Beutler, and Jon (Marijane) Beutler.

She is also survived by her grandchildren: Traci (Greg) Jones, Ryan (Melissa) Hanna, Tyler Beutler, Ashley (Marty) Schumacher, Alex (Lisa) Hanna, Travis (Rachel) Beutler, Cade Beutler, Anika Beutler, Aidan Beutler, Isaac Beutler, and Ethan Beutler; and great-grandchildren: Jack Jones, Jenna Jones, Michael Jones, Tate Hanna, Jordy Schumacher, Elliot Hanna, Mia Schumacher, and Nellie Beutler, due in July.

Florence is further survived by her sister, Marilyn Frye, and sisters-in-law, Bernie Beutler and Sonya Beutler, along with extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Beutler; her parents, Rodney and Helen Kollath; her parents-in-law, Hans “John” and Anna Beutler; and her brothers-in-law, Don Frye, Tony Beutler, and Walt Beutler.

Florence will be remembered for her steady commitment to her family, church, and community, and for the many ways she cared for others throughout her life. She valued time together, opened her home generously, and created traditions that will be remembered by family and friends for years to come.
