Eugene H. Dahlk, age 89 passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at his home. He was born on April 14, 1934 in Madison, WI the son of Harold and Lydia (Zurbuchen) Dahlk. Gene attended the McPherson school and then graduated from Verona High School where he was an accomplished 3-sport athlete. On April 23, 1955 he was united in marriage to Louanne Davis at the Memorial Baptist Church in Verona. Gene was first and foremost a farmer starting as a relief milker while in high school and then farming on the Hefty farms near Mt. Vernon until moving to the farm outside New Glarus in the early 1960's. He had also worked at Ellis Brother's Manufacturing in Verona, delivered fuel for the Blanchardville Co-Op, Culver's in New Glarus, and mowed lawns until he was 88. Gene served the community of New Glarus for many years as a driver for New Glarus Area EMS and as a member of the New Glarus School District Board. He was also a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ Consistory. He had played as a catcher in the Mt. Vernon and Mt. Horeb Fastpitch Leagues and was an avid Wisconsin Sports Fan. Gene was also proud of his Swiss Heritage and enjoyed his trips to Switzerland.
Gene is survived by his children Jeannie (Robin) Siegel, Julie Tyler, Connie (Mike) Krawczyk, and Marty (Sherri) Dahlk, grandchildren James (Erin) Nolden, Margo (Ross Laufenberg) Herfel, Lyndse (Brad Dopkins) Buol, Kellie (Alex) Kubiak, Rachel Tyler, Alexander Dahlk, and Aubrey Krawczyk, great-grandchildren Charlie, Beau, and a baby Laufenberg on the way. He is further survived by his brother Howard (Chris) Dahlk, in-laws Sue Dahlk, Barbara Hodgson, Jim Davis, Betty (Dwight) Sweeney, Carolyn (Tom Stevenson) Davis, and Alan Grindle, nieces, nephews, and his feline companions Curly and Lambeau.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Louanne, and brothers Harlan (Ardys) Dahlk and Clinton Dahlk.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at the Swiss United Church of Christ, 18 Fifth Ave., New Glarus, WI with Pat Pluss officiating. Burial will be in the Swiss Church Cemetery, New Glarus, WI.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Ave., New Glarus, WI.
Memorials are suggested to the New Glarus Area EMS.
