Ethel Leona Hollis, age 95, of Belleville passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Four Winds Manor in Verona. She was born on January 12, 1916 in Belleville to her parents Eugene and Clara (Reuter) Staley. On December 18, 1935, she was united in marriage to Orlie Hollis at Freeport, IL. Ethel was a homemaker and gardener. All who knew Ethel appreciated her kindness, quick wit, and stories of growing up in the depression. Her love of neighbor was shown in many ways. In early years she taught neighbors about pie making and homemaking. In later years she shared what she learned from the Bible. And what would Sundays be without spending time around the lunch table with her many dear and precious friends at the local Culvers. Ethel was a member of the Mt. Horeb congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Ethel is survived by her sister Lorna Gust, Cottage Grove. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Orlie in 1987, and brothers Harold and Claude. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Mt. Horeb Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 8905 Ridgeview Road. Fellowship and coffee will follow immediately. The Becker-Beal Funeral Home of Belleville is serving the family.
