Ernest W. Mabis, Jr.

Ernest W. Mabis, Jr., age 94 passed away on Friday, July 31, 2026 at the New Glarus Home. He was born on June 10, 1932 a son of Ernest and Dorothy (Rowlands) Mabis in Fitchburg, WI. Ernie attended the Burke Station Country School through 8th Grade, when he moved to Belleville in 1946. In Belleville Ernie lived on the Francis “Ozzie” and Betty Fahey farm where he worked as a hired hand. He graduated from Belleville High School in 1951. After high school he began working for Automatic Temperature Supply until he was drafted in to the United States Army in February 1953. Ernie attained the rank of Corporal and was discharged in February 1955 at Ft. Sheridan, IL. On June 19, 1955 he was united in marriage to Jeanine Fritz at Grace United Methodist in Belleville. Ernie returned to working at Automatic Temperature Supply until retiring. In his retirement he drove school bus in Belleville for 10 years and volunteered as a driver for the Sugar River Senior Center. He enjoyed camping, biking, and traveling especially up and down the Grand Canyon with family and friends. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Belleville, Masonic Lodge #310 in New Glarus, and the Duppler-Smith American Legion Post #460 in Belleville.

Ernie is survived by his wife Jeanine, daughter Sharon (Tim) Lasure, son Jeff (Tammy) Mabis, grandchildren Brittany (Adam) Brunker and Caleb (Stephanie) Mabis, and four great-grandchildren. He is further survived by a sister Shirley Smith, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Cole, brother William Mabis, and sister Esther Hanson.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026 at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home, 109 Greenway Cross, Belleville, WI with Pastor Michael Hammond officiating.

A gathering of relatives and friends will precede the memorial service from 10:00 a.m. until time of services on Friday, August 7, 2026 at the Becker-Beal Home in Belleville.

The family would like to thank the staffs of the New Glarus Home and SSM Health at Home Hospice for the kind and compassionate care given to Ernie.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Grace United Methodist Church, Duppler-Smith American Legion Post #460, or the Sugar River Senior Center.
