Obituary

Elida Marie Schneider passed away peacefully on Friday, August 8, 2025 at SSM Health Hospice House in Baraboo.  She was born on August 27, 1942 and was adopted by her loving parents Karl and Letty (Erickson) Thies, immigrants from Germany and Sweden, on October 10, 1944.  Elida grew up on Gateway Terrace in Madison, and she graduated from Madison West High School in 1960.  Her parents loved to travel and they shared that love for travel with Elida and her sister Nan.  The family visited destinations across the USA as far as California, and Elida would travel to New York City and later Germany and Sweden on her own, where she visited and connected with extended family.  Elida began working at Commercial State Bank in Madison, and while there as a teller she met a handsome customer Robert H. Schneider, Jr.  The couple were married at Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison on June 25, 1966.  Robert and Elida had a shared love of travel and together they took trips throughout the Midwest, the Plains, California, Florida, and Europe.  Their home for fifty-six years was on the shores of Lake Kegonsa outside Stoughton, and it was there they raised their two children Kristina and Scott.  As a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Elida sang in the choir for most of her adult life, including two tours with the choir to foreign countries.  As her children grew, she would return to work at First National Bank in Stoughton serving customers for over 30 years.  Elida's passion was sewing; she would sew many of her own clothes and later clothes for her children.  In later years Elida and her daughter Kristina would share their passion of sewing and quilting at Patches and Petals in Belleville, WI.

Elida is survived by her husband Robert, daughter Kristina, son Scott (Amy), and sister Nan Melton.  She is further survived by four grandchildren Kendrick, Anna, Molly, Mindy, and a great-grandson Jacob.  She is further survived by four brothers-in-law David, Tom, Jery, and John (Lori) Schneider, and many many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, several aunts and uncles in Germany and Sweden, brothers-in-law James Melton and Allen Schneider, and sisters-in-law Sue, Beth, and Jana Schneider.

No formal services will be held at this time.

The Zentner-Beal Funeral Home of New Glarus is assisting the family.
