Duane R. Gerber, age 68, passed away doing what he loved, working outdoors, on Tuesday, November 2, 2010. He was born on January 8, 1942 in Brooklyn to his parents Jacob and Anna (Neisen) Gerber. Duane graduated from Stoughton High School in 1960. On May 9, 1964 he was united in marriage to the former Elaine Wilcox at Peace Lutheran Church in Sun Prairie, WI. Duane worked most recently as a groundskeeper at Argument Golf Course and had owned and operated a dump truck for many years. Earlier in life he had worked as a soil agronomist for the Cottage Grove Co-Op and as a mechanic. Duane was a very active member of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in New Glarus and had donated time and effort to the Madison West Jaycees. Duane is survived by his wife Elaine Gerber of Belleville, WI, a son Darrel (Deborah) Gerber of Dunkirk, MD, a daughter Doreen (Craig) Conner of West Branch, IA, six grandchildren Jessica, Sarah, Reagan, Monica, Rebecca, and Miranda, a brother Gene (Beverly) Gerber of Florissant, CO, two sisters Beverly (Luther) Cook of Madison, WI and Mary Rought of Madison, WI He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother John Gerber. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 506 12th Ave., New Glarus, WI with the Rev. Gene Talley officiating with burial in Roselawn Memorial Park, Monona, WI. Relatives and friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 8, 2010 at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home, 109 Greenway Cross, Belleville, WI. A memorial fund has been established.
