Obituary

Duane J. Bollig, of Belleville, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on July 24, 2010, following a brief battle with liver cancer. He was born August 7, 1937, at St. Mary's Hospital, Madison, Wisconsin, to John and Helen (Sulland) Bollig. Duane attended West Dayton School and graduated from Belleville High School in 1955. On February 7, 1959, he married Mary Lou Fahey at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church, Belleville. They celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary this year. They lived in the Belleville area all their married life. Duane and Mary Lou farmed 33 years and proudly owned a Registered Holstein herd. After retiring from his life of farming, he continued his passion for the agricultural industry by being a petroleum driver for 17 years for Union Co-op Ass'n and later Landmark Services. Duane was President of the Green County DHIA, Green County Holstein Breeders and Union Co-op Ass'n. He was also a Green County ASCS committee man. He won several county and state awards through his involvement in organizations and his Registered Holstein herd. He was an active Dairy 4-H leader and on St. Mary of Lourdes Church council. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Most recent was a family Caribbean cruise to celebrate Duane and Mary Lou's 50th wedding anniversary. Duane also enjoyed watching his children show Registered Holstein cattle at the county and state fairs and the World Dairy Expo. He was an avid Badger and Packer fan and a collector of John Deere precision toys. Duane is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lou; their children, Randy (Clara) Bollig, Madison, Julie (Chuck) Maier, Mt. Horeb, Brenda (Gregg) Simpson, Oregon, Jodi (Bob) Nonn, Cross Plains and Bobbi Gable, Oregon; 13 grandchildren, Marine Corporal Jon (Savanna) Bollig, Katie Bollig, Jeremy (Stacy) Argue, Tyson Argue, Mitchell (Ashley Dedie) Argue, Ashley Maier, Brittany and Alyssa Simpson, Westly, Whitney and Jessica Nonn, Bailey and Logan Gable; 2 great-grandchildren, Kolten Bollig and Adryan Wessels and another one on the way. He is further survived by his sister Helen (Calvin) Christen, sister-in-law Janice Bollig and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Duane was preceded in death by his brother Darrell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 338 S. Harrison Street, Belleville, at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 28 2010, with Rev. Kenneth Klink officiating with burial in St. Andrews Cemetery, Verona. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 27 2010, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and also on Wednesday, July 28 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service, at the St. Francis of Assisi Church in Belleville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Francis of Assisi Building Fund or Hospice Care. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. William Schelman, the UW Carbone Cancer Oncology staff and the wonderful HospiceCare Team. Dad, we will miss your caring ways, warm heart and sense of humor. You are the best husband, dad and grandpa! We love you and you will be in our hearts forever.
