August 30, 1924 – December 18, 2020
Delmar H. Kubly, age 96 of New Glarus passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020 at the Monroe Clinic Hospice Home. He was born on August 30, 1924 the son of Herman and Wilma (Elmer) Kubly. Del graduated from New Glarus High School in 1942 and then went on to serve in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946. He was assigned to the newly formed 10 th Mountain Division and received training in skiing, climbing and mountain warfare in Colorado before being deployed to Italy. On September 23, 1945 he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Marian Hoesly at Camp Carson, CO.
After his military service he was involved in the automobile business in New Glarus from 1949 until 1974, first as an employee of the Fred Streiff Garage and later as a partner at Streiff Chevrolet and Kubly Richert Chevrolet. From 1975 until 1988 Del was business manager for Safety Engineering Associates in Fitchburg, Wisconsin. His favorite pastimes included sponsor and player for the local Chevrolet fast pitch softball team, golf and fishing.
Upon his retirement in 1988 until 2012, Del and Marian lived in Florida where they made many new friends and enjoyed golfing and warm weather.
Del was a member of the New Glarus American Legion Post 141 for 73 years and was sponsored to participate in the Badger Honor Flight trip to Washington DC. He was a faithful fan of the Packers, Brewers, Bucks and Badger sports and was a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus.
Del is survived by his son Kris (Penelope) Kubly and daughter Roxann (Michael) Murray, grandchildren Sarah (Doug) Kubehl, Nissa (Jason Sellers) Kubly, Todd (Lisa) Koltes, Melissa (Scott) Hegarty and Jill (Michael) Ceravolo, and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Marian.
Memorials are suggested to the New Glarus American Legion Post 141 or Monroe Clinic Hospice.
A celebration of Del's life will be held at a later date.
The Zentner-Beal Funeral Home of New Glarus is assisting the family.
