Delayne M. “GG” “Tootie” Retrum, age 83 passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2026 at the SSM Health Hospice Home in Monroe with her family by her side. She was born on December 7, 1942 the daughter of Wayne and Elnora (Duerst) Showers. Delayne graduated from New Glarus High School in 1961 and was united in marriage to Merton Retrum at the Hollandale Lutheran Church on December 9, 1961. Delayne worked as a waitress for many years at Swiss Lanes, the New Glarus Hotel, and Chalet St. Moritz. She had also owned and operated Curves in New Glarus. Delayne was a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ. She enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren along with gathering for coffee with the girls.
Delayne is survived by her husband Mert, daughters Jori Wirth, Sherri (James) Holz, and Cindee (Kord) Flesher, grandchildren Corey (Katie) & Casey (Elizabeth) Wirth, Ashley & Brandon (Jesse) Holz, and Bailey Flesher, great-grandchildren Zoey, Rylan, Braelynn, Hunter, Brayson, and Berkley. She is further survived by her three nephews Terry (Judy), Daniel, & Scott Meland, and lifelong friend Judy Stuessy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Deanne Von Arx, and son-in-law Duane “Beanie” Wirth.
A gathering of relatives and friends will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Ave., New Glarus, WI.
The family would like to thank the staff of the SSM Health Hospice Home for the kind and compassionate care given to Delayne.
