Debra Diane (Disch) Herfel passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025 at Agrace HospiceCare, Inc., Fitchburg at the age of 68.  Deb was born July 15, 1956, in Monroe, WI to Waldo "Duke" and Betty Jean (Holcomb) Disch.  She was the fifth of seven children.  Deb married Curt Herfel on March 17, 1983, in Las Vegas, Nevada.  They were blessed with three children and four grandchildren.

Deb grew up in Mt. Vernon, WI attending small rural school, LaFollette Heights, in Mt. Vernon until the 7th grade when LaFollette Heights joined the Mt. Horeb School District.  Deb graduated Class of 1974 from Mt. Horeb High School.  After graduation, she had various jobs until securing a job at Carnes, Verona, WI, on November 1, 1977, which she continued for 13 years.  Following the passing of her father-in-law in a farming accident, Deb and Curt purchased the family's home farm, and she began a life-long career in agriculture.  Deb and Curt worked side-by-side milking cows, doing chores and trying to figure out a new way of life. Deb appreciated her farm living which enabled her to be home with the family and ensuring her children had all they needed.

Deb is survived by her husband, Curt, their children Shelly (Bob) Johnson, Traci Herfel (Roger Handler), and Curtis H. Herfel (April Jo Watson), grandchildren Nicole and Kortni Johnson, Alex Grignano and Lillian Handler.  She is further survived by siblings Dennis (Phyllis) Disch, Cheryl (Roger) Disch, Linda (Bob) Sies, Judy (Dave) Ross, Terry Disch, Deanna Prochaska, brother-in-law Ray Herfel (Irene), and 10 nephews & 4 nieces.

Deb was preceded in death by her parents, father and mother-in-law Horace and Lillian Herfel, and brother and sister in-law Gerald and Yvonne Herfel and Shirley and Russel Riley

Deb leaves behind many great friends who were a wonderful support team to her including Lois Mimetz, Dennis and Anna Brady, Chris Disch, Dave and Loretta Herfel, Kristen Steivang, Brian Miller (who always went above and beyond to help Curt), Ben Shortreed, Kara Flentje, along with many others.  She would have been lost without them and every day was so appreciative of their love.  Special thanks to her siblings Dennis and Deanna for their nearly daily visits to provide support and make sure Deb was behaving.  Deb and her family cannot thank Agrace HospiceCare, Inc. enough for all their love, compassion, and support over this past year.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Salem United Church of Christ, 502 Mark Dr., Verona, WI with Rev. Phil Hobson officiating.  Burial will follow in the Verona Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2025 at Becker-Beal Funeral Home, 109 Greenway Cross, Belleville, WI.
