Obituary

David Salisbury Jackson, age 78, of New Glarus passed away on March 8, 2015 at his home. He was born in Detroit, MI on September 9, 1936 to Edmund and Sarah (Salisbury) Jackson. He graduated from Redford High School in Detroit in 1955 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he enjoyed a 26-year career. He served aboard the USS Ranger (CV-61), and the USS Cleveland (LPD-7), Patrol Squadron 44, and Fighter Squadron 154. He also served at Naval Air Stations at Grosse Ile, MI; Patuxent River, MD; Lakehurst, NJ; Miramar, CA; Naval Station San Diego, CA; Sangley Point, Philippines; the Navy Recruiting District, Milwaukee, WI; and aboard Kirtland Air Force Base, Albuquerque, NM. On May 3, 1968, David married Rachel Moe at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Albuquerque, NM. After retiring from the Navy in 1981 as a Chief Petty Officer, he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and certification in elementary education at Lakeland College, Sheboygan, WI. He made numerous contributions to his community in various capacities. He was active in his church. He also had a leadership role in Scouting; was very active in Tripoli Shrine Center and the Animals Unit, Milwaukee, WI; in Ballut Abyad Shrine Center and the Shrine Legion of Honor in Albuquerque, NM, and Zor Shrine Center and the Wranglers Unit of Madison, WI and Royal Order of Jesters, Madison Court #126. He was also a Past Master of Service Lodge #95, F & AM, Manila, Philippines. He belonged to Zor Shrine Center; Zor Wranglers, Royal Order of Jesters Court #126, Madison, Green County Shrine Club, New Glarus Masonic Lodge #310, Stuessy-Kuenzi Post 141, American Legion; New Glarus VFW Post 10549, and The Fleet Reserve Association. David is survived by his wife Rachel, and two sons, Laurence (Jennifer), of New Glarus, WI; and David (Melanie), of Appleton, WI; six grandchildren, Emma Jean, Benjamin David, and Matthew Edward Jackson, and Tobin Marie, Zoee Jean, and Eden Rachel Jackson; one brother, Thomas, of Palo Alto, CA; and one sister, Sarah Frederick (Hope) of Howell, MI; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 506 Twelfth Avenue, New Glarus, WI with the Rev. Gene Talley officiating. Inurnment of cremains will occur on a later date at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove, WI. Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Avenue, New Glarus, WI with a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m. to conclude the gathering.
