Clinton Wesley Zettle, Jr., age 92 passed away on Friday, April 24, 2026 at the William S. Middleton VA Hospital in Madison after an extended illness. He was born at home on February 8, 1934 in the Town of Clarno, Green County, WI the son of Clinton Wesley Zettle, Sr. and Pearl Zettle. Clinton married Pam on July 14, 2000. He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956 during the Korean War. After his discharge from the Army, Clint returned to Wisconsin and farmed in the Brodhead area until 1998 until moving to Brooklyn in 2000. He was a 4-H leader for twenty years and a member of the American Berkshire Association. Clint would sell breeding stock to many farmers in the hog business and for 4-H projects, along with showing pigs at area county fairs and the Wisconsin State Fair. He had been chosen as an Outstanding Farmer by the Brodhead JC’s. Clint served on the Brodhead School Board for six years, was president of the Patrons of Decatur Cheese Factory, & Director of the Green Co. Ag Chest. He paraded the horse races at the Green County Fair for thirty years, gave wagon rides on the 4th of July in Monroe for thirty years at Twining Park and at the Green Co. Dairy Breakfast. He was a life member of the D.A.V. and the American Legion Post 209 in Orfordville, WI. As a member of the American Legion, he pulled the caisson in parades for thirty-seven years. He was also a member of the Northern Illinois Draft Horse and Mule Association, where he played a significant role to bring the Wisconsin Farm Technology Days to Albany in 2007. Clint also attended the Richland County wagon train for over twenty years. In addition to farming, he owned & operated a repair shop in Brodhead and drove school bus in Brodhead, Albany, Monroe, and Verona from 1968 to 2017. Some of Clint’s most enjoyable times were spent working with his mules.
Clinton is survived by his wife Pam Zettle, sister Karen (Frank) Schultz, daughters Roberta (Thomas) Hoesly and Belinda Pettit, sons Darrell (Teresa) Zettle and Timothy (Lindi) Zettle, ten grandchildren Chris, Todd, Jason & Maci Hoesly, Brandy Makuski, Shari Carpenter, Christi Baptiste, Drew Langer, Katie & Austin Zettle, fourteen great-grandchildren, many nieces & nephews, and good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers Wayne, Ivan, Delmar, and Dwight Zettle.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 1, 2026 at the Zwingli United Church of Christ-Paoli, 1338 County Rd. PB, Belleville, WI with Rev. Karla Schmidt officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Paoli Cemetery, rural Belleville.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home, 109 Greenway Cross, Belleville, WI.
Casual Western attire is appropriate to honor and celebrate Clinton.
Special thanks are given to the staff of the William S. Middleton Memorial VA Hospital and Hospice in Madison for the care given to Clinton.
A memorial fund has been established.
