IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Chase F.
Messner
January 17, 2002 – February 9, 2025
Chase Frederick Messner, age 23 passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025 as a result of an automobile accident. He was born on January 17, 2002 the son of Kurt Messner and Tara & Andy (Wagner) LaBerge. Chase attended Belleville schools and graduated with the class of 2020. He worked at the Sub-Zero Group in Fitchburg for several years.
From a young age Chase, being unable to sit still in his kindergarten class, contained a contagious energy and there was no fear to slow his adventurous spirit down. He was a friend to all, the one who would sit with someone sitting alone at an empty lunch table. Inviting students who didn't have grandparents to eat with on grandparents' day, to join him and his. He was the guy who would greet younger students by their first name and high five each of them on the bus as he walked down the aisle. Chase was able to extraordinarily connect with kids, as he modeled in his fun-spirited bonds with his nephews, who he deeply enjoyed playing with.
After each tackle on the football field, Chase was right there to quickly help his opponent up. Chase was the upperclassmen that all younger teammates knew, as he took very seriously the favor of giving them a ride home after practices. Like the time it may not have been legal for him to pile as many underclassmen into his vehicle after Saturday morning football practice to get everyone to breakfast afterward; "But Mom, they didn't have a ride and I didn't want them left out". Chase will be remembered for his bright smile and infectious laugh, generosity, leadership, and hard-working attitude. He was a fan-favorite in the student section while wildly cheering on his fellow Wildcats, until his megaphone was taken away by the athletic director. He had a God-given ability to make everyone laugh, which paved the way to Morgan being known as 'Chase's little sister'. He had a protective eye on his sister Morgan, although he'd never let her know it.
Two of his favorite events throughout the year were opening fishing weekend with his dad- where he found peace and patience to catch trout despite his lively nature- and hunting with his grandpa. The time spent with loved ones was more important to him than filling a tag. It was common to see Chase on his day off, kayaking down the Sugar River with friends. Chase was a proud American patriot; it was not uncommon to see him sporting red, white, and blue. Those he loved the most were able to bring out his soft side, especially his Nana and girlfriend. His youngest sister will hold close memories of endless hours playing in the snow making forts with Chase. On January 17th, you could find him celebrating with his favorite ice cream birthday cake that his mom made every year. His mother will miss his unbelievable bear hugs he gave her every time they greeted and parted.
Chase is survived by his parents Tara & Andy LaBerge and Kurt Messner, siblings Morgan, Brett, Scott, Jonathan, Elianna, and Ashton, nieces and nephews Maiwenn, Javier, Constance, and Mauricio. He is further survived by his grandparents Fred and Mary Wagner, aunt and uncles Kari (Jim) Norton and Kris (Rick Mattson) Messner, cousin Cole Feldt, and girlfriend Bianca Orozco.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Peter and Carol Messner.
