Charlotte L. Viney

Charlotte L. Viney, devoted mother, grandmother, and great‑grandmother, passed away on July 28. She will be remembered for her steady strength, her love for family, and her devotion and resilience.

She was born on January 19, 1932, in Richland Center, WI, to Graydon and Clara (Bjugstad) Scholl. Her family later moved to Stoughton, where she attended school, and then to Belleville, where she graduated from Belleville High School. She met Floyd, and they were married on October 17, 1953.

Charlotte’s life was filled with simple joys and shared traditions, including a marriage of nearly 73 years — a union her husband lovingly described as “a good marriage for almost 73 years,” trips to the Fireside Dinner Theatre, visits to Richland Center, a special trip to California to see her brother Jack, and farmers’ markets; her love of flowers, crafts, shopping, stories about her Grandma Jennie, the comfort of homecooked meals and Sunday family dinners, and more shopping.

Charlotte is survived by her husband of 72 years, Floyd; children and their spouses: Barb (Doug) Christensen, Doug (Marian) Viney, and Steve (Sandra) Viney.

She is further survived by her grandchildren and great‑grandchildren: Andrew (Sara) Viney, Kyle (Laura) Viney, Kaitlin (Gunnar) Melstrand, Alex (Emily Meyers) Christensen, Brittany (AJ) Melancon, Alison (Mike) Dennis, Matthew (Mackenzie) Viney, Michael Viney (Tania Tapia), and Benjamin Viney; along with 11 great‑grandsons and 1 great‑granddaughter.

Charlotte is also survived by her brother Graydon (Shirley) Scholl Jr., and her sisters‑in‑law Elaine Worringer, Marybelle Helgestad, and Ruth Viney; numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, neighbors who were like family, and friends.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter Cheryl Ann, her brothers Gilbert Scholl and Jack (Jan) Stayton; and her sisters Shirley (Jim) Reuterskiold and Evelyn Heth; brothers-in-law Orville Viney, Bernard Viney, George Heinzman, Charlie Viney, Paul Viney, Richard Viney, Tony Jarona, Ken Helgestad, and Bill Worringer; sisters-in-law Dorothy Viney, Charlene Heinzman, Hilda Jarona, Annabelle Acker, and Myrna Viney.

The family gives special thanks to the Gerald Brown families, staff at the Sugar River Senior Center including Deb Chicks and Bob Hoffman, and the Belleville EMS and Fire; staff at Hattie’s Glen and Agrace.
